Abstract In a collisionless shock the energy of directed flow is converted to heating and acceleration charged particles, magnetic compression. low-Mach number shocks downstream ion distribution made directly transmitted ions. higher-Mach reflection important. With increase Mach number, rippling develops, which expected affect dynamics. Using tracing in model front, distributions ions are analyzed compared for planar stationary with an overshoot similar ripples propagating along front. It shown that results distributions, substantially broader more diffuse phase space. Gyrotropization sped up. Rippling able generate backstreaming ions, absent case.
